How Dog Teeth Cleanings Can Help Your Pet Stay Healthy
The importance of dog teeth cleaning may have been overlooked all too often. Did you know that around 80% of dogs end up having signs of periodontal disease before they are three years old, according to the American Veterinary Dental Society? At Animal Medical Center San Jose, we want to ensure that our pet parents know how important a pet dental cleaning can really be. Our animal hospital offers dog teeth cleaning with a gentle touch. This is an important part of wellness care for several reasons.
Dog Teeth Cleaning: Why Pet Dental Care Is So Important
Dog teeth cleaning procedures are important for many reasons other than just fresh breath (although it certainly is a nice perk to have your dog leave our animal hospital with much-improved breath). When a pet has periodontal disease, he or she can suffer health issues related to the liver, the kidneys, and the heart. Since diseases like liver and heart disease are such severe heath problems, and so challenging to treat, our pet hospital focuses on stopping the disease before it can start. Regular pet dental treatments from our veterinarian can make a big difference in disease prevention and are an important part of total wellness care for your dog.
Our veterinarian Dr. Grewal will perform pet dental exams and cleanings on a regular basis as needed for your dog. Part of the home pet care that Dr. Grewal and our San Jose animal clinic staff recommend is regular teeth brushing at home. Dental disease begins when bacteria inside the mouth adhere to the surface of your pet's teeth, which forms plaque. You can easily remove plaque at home with regular teeth brushing. However, if you allow the plaque to stay in your pet's mouth, it can cause gum inflammation or infections. Plaque can also harden into tartar, which is much more difficult to remove. If an infection is present it can go all the way to the root of the teeth and the jaw, causing disease and the loss of teeth. Having regular pet dental care with Dr. Grewal combined with home oral care can save your pet a lot of pain and trouble with teeth!
We are happy to help your pet stay healthy with regular pet dental care. We will remove plaque and tartar and give your pet nice clean teeth. When your pet has a healthy mouth they will be a healthier and happier dog!

An Easy Thing San Jose Pet Owners Can Do
to Protect Their Pets' Health
Is your pet up to date on critical vaccinations? Many pet owners are surprised to learn that most vaccines require annual boosters to be effective. Typically, your animal clinic will remind you when your pet is due for a vaccination. But if you’ve recently moved or changed veterinarians, you pet may be overdue for his or her shots. Unfortunately, some pet owners think that letting their pets’ vaccinations lapse is not a big deal. However, doing so can lead to serious health consequences for your pet and your family
Routine Vaccines Essential to Preventive Pet Care
Canine and feline vaccinations are essential for protecting pets from highly contagious and often fatal diseases, including rabies, kennel cough, distemper, Lyme Disease and more. If your
pet lacks proper protection, an afternoon at the dog park or a stay in boarding kennel could lead to serious or even fatal consequences. For example, Leptospirosis is a serious bacterial infection that can lead to kidney failure in canines. This bacteria flourishes during warm, wet weather, and without proper protection, your pet may sustain long-lasting damage to his internal organs – before you even realize your pet is seriously ill.
Pet vaccinations are often your pet's first line of defense against illness and a vital step in keeping your pets healthy and active. Additionally, certain diseases, like rabies, can be spread from animals to humans. By vaccinating your pet against these transmittable conditions, you are protecting your family as well.
Many pet owners have questions about whether vaccines are safe or necessary for their pets. At our San Jose animal clinic, we strongly believe vaccines are an essential part of routine pet care. Additionally, an adverse allergic reaction to a vaccine is extremely rare. If your pet has been vaccinated before without any problems, it is extremely unlike that a future problem will occur.
Our veterinarian Dr. Grewal and our staff are always happy to answer any questions you may have – just give us a call.
